Watson's Brand Development

Watson’s is a third generation family business that was founded in the South Sound’s verdant river valley in 1984. The company started out as a nursery and gift shop and is now a high-end garden and home store.

Watson’s roots were in growing plants, but they had evolved to become a destination for garden knowledge, home goods, gifts and more. Their brand needed a refresh to carry them through the next season of growth.

The Brand

Focusing on what Watson’s sold no longer served them so the decision was made to drop greenhouse and nursery in their branding and lean into the lifestyle that Watson’s inspired. “For living” became the new tagline and the central theme of the brand with the option of a longer more descriptive tag: “For garden. For home. For living.”

For the visual design, I modernized the logo, opting for smoother returns on the typeface and a richer color palette. The ‘W’ was pulled out of the name to be used as a standalone branding element in marketing and on merchandise.
